The Crisis Center is a safe place where victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse receive assistance through advocacy, peer counseling and support. In 2014, the Crisis Center assisted 1,089 survivors of domestic violence and 238 survivors of sexual assault. On October 22 our Crisis Center will be hosting a “Silent Witness Dinner” event for 100 people including community members and local stakeholders.
The Silent Witness Project consist of a traveling exhibit of life-sized, free-standing, red, wooden silhouettes. Each silhouette represents a woman who was murdered by her intimate partner and whose partner has been convicted of the murder or where both died in a murder/suicide.
Why we are doing this: TO REMEMBER The mission of this project is to remind us of the impact of domestic homicides and family violence within our community. TO CREATE AWARENESS Of the numerous programs and services offered by Resource Centers throughout the province that are working towards the end of violence against women. TO PROMOTE ACTION To affect positive changes within our own homes, our community and throughout Katy/West Houston area.
