The Texas Council on Family Violence educates victim advocates, criminal justice personnel, health care providers, faith communities, businesses, advocacy organizations, service providers and allied professionals in communities throughout Texas and the nation.

TCFV schedules statewide trainings that are designed to help organizations and communities work to end violence against women. Workshop topics cover a variety of issues including: battering intervention and prevention, community organizing, legal issues, working with communities of faith and assisting law enforcement.

In addition, TCFV provides training on request to meet the specific needs of your organization or agency. The 2008 Texas Council on Family Violence Statewide Conference

“Thirty Years of Building Healthy and Safe Texas Families: Past, Present and Future”

30th-annual-conference-cmyk.jpgThe 25th Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) Statewide Conference will be held on September 25 and 26 at the Westin Park Central in Dallas, Texas. The conference is a meaningful opportunity for advocates, law enforcement personnel, judicial representatives and professionals to obtain valuable information and training on enhancing quality services to survivors of family violence, best practice initiatives, innovative strategies for addressing family violence in their respective communities, and exchanging ideas on new domestic violence public policy trends.

With its theme of, “Thirty Years of Building a Safer Texas: Past, Present and Future”, the 2008 conference will offer workshops on the following topics: Working with Men and Boys, Healthy Marriage Initiatives, Domestic Violence Policy Trends, Batterer Intervention Prevention Programs, Engaging Communities in Prevention, Economic Advocacy, and Cultural Competency, Complex Protective Orders for Survivors of Family Violence, Sexual Assault, Media Relations, Housing Options, Confidentiality and Documentation. The TCFV Conference will be an occasion to reflect on the many creative initiatives undertaken by the Council in its 30-year history and utilize the open exchange of ideas by attendees to develop imaginative solutions which empower survivors.

2008 New Worker’s Institute

The Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) will be hosting the 2008 New Workers’ Institute in Austin, Texas, on June 12-13, 2008. Conference registration fee for this event is $130 per person. The Institute will be held at the Omni South Park Hotel in Austin and hotel reservations can be made by calling 512.383.2621 or 1.800-843.6664. In order to receive the TCFV special group rate of $85 (single) or $115 (double), you must make your reservation before May 27, 2008.

This two day interactive meeting has as one of its goals to encourage and support the valuable work of new domestic violence advocates. Join advocates from across Texas for this inspirational opportunity to network with domestic violence colleagues, obtain beneficial information on the seriousness of domestic violence in our state and explore new strategies in creating and supporting violence free families. Institute attendees will also be afforded the opportunity to gain useful knowledge on the foundation, philosophy, and origins of the effort to end intimate partner violence.

Battering Intervention and Prevention Project Conference

bipp-conf.jpg The Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) 5th Annual Statewide Battering Intervention and Prevention Project (BIPP) Conference theme is “Coordinated Community Response”. The conference will provide participants with useful tools and opportunities to discuss innovative strategies that enhance coordination between BIPPs and local community systems to protect victims, hold batterers accountable, and enforce the community’s commitment to ending family violence.

The conference will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, with Judge Roberto Caňas, as the keynote speaker. Following Judge Caňas, participants will have the opportunity to participate in excellent workshops including firearm background checks, use of technology by batterers, and enhancing BIPPs. Later that evening join other conference attendees for a networking dinner at Scholz Garten. This restaurant is the last of the Austin Texas Beer Gardens, has been open since 1866, and is considered the oldest restaurant in Texas. On Saturday the conference will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast for conference participants. Mr. David Adams, Ed.D., the keynote speaker on Saturday, will address participants in a two part general session. Later in the afternoon David will conduct a workshop on parenting and BIPPs. Adams is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Emerge. He has 29 years of experience working with men who batter and is a nationally recognized trainer and researcher. David has published numerous articles about domestic violence and is Co-Chair of the Batterer Intervention Working Group of the Massachusetts Commission on Domestic Violence. David has conducted trainings in over 30 states and five nations. He currently co-leads the EMERGE fatherhood parenting group. After lunch participants will have several excellent workshops to attend. The conference will conclude with CJAD facilitating a panel discussion on Accreditation.
