Katy Avenson, CPA

Katy Avenson is a partner at Avenson Hamann CPAs in Austin, Texas. Her firm works primarily with nonprofit organizations, providing tax, consulting and interim CFO services. Katy attended the University of Texas at Austin and has more than 15 years of experience consulting with nonprofits on issues including taxable activities, maintaining exempt status, formation, and dissolution. She has worked with various types and sizes of nonprofit organizations, including charitable, social, community, and membership associations. Katy has served on several local nonprofit boards, and she volunteers with the Austin Chapter of CPAs, frequently leading free training courses to help nonprofit staff and board members navigate nonprofit tax rules. Katy is part of the Austin CPA Chapter Financial Literacy Committee and serves on the Nonprofit Organizations Conference Committee for the Texas Society of CPAs.



Jason Buckner

Jason is a native Texan who returned home after serving for 5 years as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the U.S Army. His past work history includes assignments with both the Texas Veterans Commission and the Department of Public Safety. Jason served as the state VOCA and VAWA administrator from March of 2011 to November of 2015, and has been committed to improving essential services for victims in the state of Texas. He is currently the Operations Manager with the Homeland Security Grants Division of the Office of The Governor, where he works extensively with the eGrants system. Jason continues to have great compassion for crime victims, and will always be a staunch advocate for the survivors of our great state.

Dan Durst

Dan Durst has experience in various accounting and compliance issues related to government contracts. Dan’s areas of expertise include Contractor Accounting & Compliance Risk Assessments, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Cost Allowability, Cost Proposal Preparation & Evaluation, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Forward Pricing Rate Development & Internal Rate Structures, and Incurred Cost Proposal Development. Dan is also well-versed in various levels of audit support including DCAA and Inspector General audits. Dan’s industry experience includes defense, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and public sector. Dan has supervised and performed the audit of over 100 cost proposals submitted by prospective bidders for a Federal agency client. Dan completed the agreed-upon procedures which consisted of an evaluation of proposed direct labor, other direct costs, consultants, subcontractor pricing, and application of indirect rates including fee. He has assisted clients with complex cost accounting matters, indirect rate modeling, incurred cost submissions, estimating system reviews, evaluation of prime and subcontractor pricing, proposal development, audit support, and other regulatory compliance matters. Before joining Capital Edge, Dan was an audit supervisor and lead consultant for Clarke Leiper PLLC, a member of the AICPA’s Government Audit Quality Center. He has previously held security clearances with the US Department of Defense, including U.S. DoD Secret Clearance. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Information Technology, and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from George Mason University.

Leita Hart-Fanta, CPA, CGFM & CGAP

Leita is an experienced facilitator, having led over 1200 full or multi-day seminars. She has also keynoted numerous conferences and developed over 25 distinct courses and speeches. She was named an “Outstanding Presenter” by the Institute of Internal Auditors in 2014. Leita is the founder of – a site for self-study courses for government auditors, which she founded in 1996. Leita currently develops audit and CPA training curriculums for Walmart and Deloitte. Leita is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s in business administration, and she is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager, and Certified Government Audit Professional. She serves on the government conference planning committee for the Texas Society of CPAs, and is a member of the AICPA, TSCPA, IIA, and AGA. She lives with her fishing-obsessed husband and two beautiful tween daughters in Austin, Texas.

Leticia Estrada

Leticia Estrada has worked with the State of Texas for almost 20 years and
has 15+ years of procurement experience. She served the Department of
Assistive and Rehabilitation Services processing procurements for 11 years.
For three years, she oversaw the Procurement Policy and Training Team for
the Comptroller’s Statewide Procurement Division. Leticia now oversees some
of the state’s most difficult procurements as the Manager of Tier II Health
Services for the Complex Procurement Section at the Health and Human
Services Division. She has attended several educational opportunities with the
University of Texas- her most recent accomplishment being the completion
of the Governor’s Leadership Program. Leticia has two sons and is an Austin
