Essentials of Advocacy In Practice

TCFV offers training specific to new advocates working in family violence shelter centers. These fundamental training topics can help to familiarize you with your role as an advocate. The training objectives are essential to understanding the systems survivors navigate; as well as offering ethical, trauma-informed support. All new employees of Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) funded family violence programs must complete orientation and training that is compliant with the Texas Administrative Code. The training provided by TCFV in this library meets those minimum requirements. Please note, you must have Coalition Manager login credentials to access the training listed in this library.

Expanding on the Movement in Advocacy

TCFV offers training that builds on minimum training requirements for advocates, and deepens their knowledge around survivor-centered advocacy, trauma-informed care, wellness, racial equity, and language justice. These trainings offer tools, perspective and resources that can help advocates to empower survivors who may be negatively impacted by social and systemic barriers to their safety and wellness.
