Directing the Work is a leadership development initiative designed to support and advance the work of executives charged with overseeing family violence organizations. Our goal is to ensure TCFV family violence agencies across Texas receive personalized technical assistance and support.
New ED Development Program
Are you a new Executive Director? If so, welcome! We are thrilled you are here and are in your new role leading an incredible agency doing life changing work. Our Executive Director Development Program provides a comprehensive orientation and ongoing support to new Executive Directors for Family Violence programs, just like you.
We celebrate the reality that EDs have diverse backgrounds and experiences. You may come from outside the domestic violence or nonprofit arenas; you may be brand new to the ED role. We want to invest in you during these first years of your ED journey to support you in gaining the essential skills and share statewide trends, best practices, and resources necessary to successfully lead your agency.
Consultations
Sometimes your leasership journey will traverses terrain that is unfamiliar to you. This offers the opportunity to walk alongside experts outside of your agency and gaint the tailored support you need. We here at TCFV offer support in a number of areas in the form of consultations. This is a benefit of category I and II members and family violence agencies funded by HHSC.
Provides an on-site consultant for up to three days to work with staff and board to make an agency assessment and recommendations for leadership transition. Consultant may also attend board meetings to assist with determining next steps.
Provides a consultant to assist the board in reviewing the executive director’s or CEO’s job description, optimal salary, marketing options and hiring process.
Offers an overview of the state and federal confidentiality guidelines to ensure board members have the information required to safeguard the organization they serve. TCFV staff presents this training.
Explores strategies to recruit committed individuals to serve as board members who are qualified and share the perspectives that align with the organization’s goals and needs. Also includes personalized assistance for building an effective board training and orientation plan. TCFV partners with nonprofit board experts to present this training.
Examines board member’s fundamental roles and responsibilities to enhance effective governance. Explores strategies for building effective board structures.
Provides strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit key donors. TCFV partners with nonprofit fund development experts to present this training.
Provides strategies to increase and bolster existing fundraising plans while defining the board’s role in fundraising.
Offers an in-depth review on how your organization can raise funds to make a difference for your cause by specifically exploring fundraising plans, cultivating and sustaining donor relations and strengthening proposal development skills. TCFV partners with nonprofit fund development experts to present this training.
Explores key aspects of building and sustaining a high-performance organization through strategic planning. TCFV partners with nonprofit strategic visionary experts to present this training.
Thought Leaders Cohort
Thought Leaders is an intensive cohort-based program for new and tenured Executive Directors and Chief Executive Officers. This year long program is designed to offer you as a TCFV member an opportunity to expand and enhance leadership skills in a high-impact, transformational experience.
By joining TLC, you will:
- Step away from busy days and the persistant urgent and important to rest.
- Explore your leadership in thoughtful and inspirtional ways.
- Coach one another with current issues and questions.
- Build relationships with fellow leaders.
The cohort consists of three virtual or in-person gatherings and requires travel. TCFV covers lodging and reimburses participants for travel and food per diem. Registration is complimentary and requires filling out an application. Applications are usually distributed in the fall. Cohort meeting runs two days in various cities throughout Texas.
The biggest take away from the retreats is having formed trusting relationships with peers in our movement/industry, and having a resource pool to go to for planning and decision-making.
